Released after a three year hiatus, "meow music" is Koolcat's 33-minute love letter to electronic music new and old. Made entirely in linux using free plugins, It draws from the charmingly retro house, chiptune and techno that soundtracked much of internet culture throughout the 1990s and 2000s as well as the maximalist sounds of early 2010s dubstep and electro to create a loving portrait of dance music over the years. From the Eurodance inspired basslines of "Solar System Rave" to the punchy 808s of "Bits and Bytes", meow music is both distinctly nostalgic and retro-futuristic, modernizing the sounds of electronic music's past whilst maintaining the approachable, amateurish charm that formed an essential part of its identity.
